Privacy Policy
1. Overview
Gmail FollowUp Radar is a Chrome extension that helps you track Gmail threads and avoid missing follow-ups or unanswered emails. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with Google or Gmail.
2. What data we collect
The extension collects and stores the following information โ entirely on your local device:
- Your Gmail address. Used solely to distinguish emails you sent from emails you received, which is required for accurate reply detection. You can provide this manually in the extension settings, or the extension will attempt to detect it from the Gmail interface.
- Thread metadata. For threads you choose to track, the extension stores the Gmail thread ID, subject line, the direction of the last message (sent or received), and timestamps. The body or full content of emails is never read or stored.
- Pending send entries. When you send an email, a temporary record is held briefly (up to 10 minutes) while the extension waits to match it to the corresponding Gmail thread. This record is then either converted into a tracked thread entry or discarded.
3. What data we do NOT collect
The extension does not collect, access, or store any of the following:
- Email body content, attachments, or full message text
- Contacts or address book data
- Passwords or authentication credentials
- Browsing history or activity outside of Gmail
- Location data
- Financial or health information
- Any data from websites other than
mail.google.com
4. How data is stored
All data is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local and the browser's built-in IndexedDB. No data is transmitted to any remote server โ there is no backend, no cloud sync, and no analytics service.
Pending send entries expire automatically after 10 minutes. You can clear all stored data at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.
5. Permissions used and why
- storage โ to persist your Gmail address and temporary pending send entries across sessions.
- alarms โ to run a recurring background check that evaluates whether tracked threads have become overdue.
- notifications โ to alert you when a tracked thread is overdue and requires your attention.
- tabs โ to send updates to open Gmail tabs, detect your Gmail address, and open Gmail when you click a notification or thread link in the popup.
- host permission for mail.google.com โ to inject the content script that monitors thread views and displays in-thread action buttons.
6. Third-party services
The extension does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only third-party code included is Dexie.js, an open-source IndexedDB wrapper used for local data storage. It is bundled directly within the extension and does not make any network requests.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties โ because we do not collect any data in the first place. All information stays on your device.
8. Children's privacy
This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes in a material way, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the extension after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
